OUR STORY

In 2009 we led our first group to Patagonia: nine people who had met online, a local guide and a plan to walk the W trek slowly, sleeping in small refugios and eating every meal together. By the third night they were telling stories like old friends. We have been chasing that feeling ever since.

Today Wayfarer designs small-group and private journeys in 38 countries, but the rules have not changed. Never more than twelve travellers. Leaders who live where they guide. Two or three nights in every place. And money that stays with the families, guesthouses and guides who make each journey possible.

Our principles

01

Travel small

Twelve people fit around one table, in one minibus and in one mountain hut. It is the size of group a village can welcome rather than endure.

02

Pay fairly

Guides, drivers, cooks and host families are paid directly, on time and above local rates. We publish where your money goes on every booking.

03

Leave lighter

We walk, sail and take trains wherever we can, carbon-balance all ground travel and leave every campsite cleaner than we found it.

04

Say no to crowds

We start early, take the side valley and skip the famous viewpoint at noon. If a place is overwhelmed, we stop going until it isn’t.

THE PEOPLE WHO LEAD

Our leaders

Every leader lives in the region they guide. Between them, they have walked more than 60,000 kilometres with Wayfarer travellers.
