FIELD GUIDE

Two hours from the noise of Marrakech, the High Atlas is a world of terraced valleys, walnut groves and Amazigh villages built from the same red earth as the mountains. We walk from village to village with mules carrying the bags, then cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass to sleep under the stars in the Sahara.

Our Morocco journeys are led by guides from the Imlil valley, and every night is spent with a family or in a small kasbah run by local people. Expect mint tea at every door, bread from clay ovens and very little Wi-Fi.

Good to know

  • Dress modestly in villages: shoulders and knees covered for everyone.
  • The dirham is a closed currency; we exchange money together on day one.
  • Desert nights can drop near freezing even in October — bring a warm layer.
  • Ramadan dates move each year; travelling then is special, but quieter.
