FIELD GUIDE

The best way to see the western fjords is the way the Vikings did: from the water. Our private sailing journeys use a traditional wooden ketch with a skipper and cook, slipping into side fjords too narrow for cruise ships and anchoring below abandoned mountain farms.

Days are a mix of sailing, short hikes to viewpoints and swims for the brave. In the evenings the skipper cooks the day’s catch while the light lingers until almost midnight.

Good to know

  • No sailing experience is needed; helping with the ropes is optional.
  • Cabins are compact with shared bathrooms on board.
  • Seasickness is rare inside the fjords, but bring tablets if you are prone.
  • Private charters suit families and groups of friends of up to eight.
