Day by day

Day 1 — Punta Arenas

Arrive in Punta Arenas, the windswept port on the Strait of Magellan. Tomás meets you at the airport; in the evening we gather for king crab, Chilean wine and a briefing on the days ahead.

0 km · ↑ 0 m · Night: small hotel, Punta Arenas

Day 2 — Into the park

A morning drive north across the pampa, watching for rheas and guanacos, brings us to the park. We cross Lake Pehoé by catamaran and stretch our legs on a short walk to a viewpoint over the Cuernos.

8 km · ↑ 250 m · Night: mountain refugio

Day 3 — The French Valley

The big day of the trek. We climb beside the French River into a hidden amphitheatre of granite, listening to avalanches roll off the hanging glacier, and continue to the Británico lookout if the weather is kind.

21 km · ↑ 900 m · Night: mountain refugio

Day 4 — Lake Pehoé

A slower day to rest the legs. Walk the shoreline of Lake Pehoé to a waterfall, paddle a kayak if the wind allows, or simply sit with a coffee and watch the light move across the peaks.

10 km · ↑ 200 m · Night: our private camp

Day 5 — Grey Glacier

We follow the western arm of the W through lenga forest to the edge of Grey Glacier, where blue ice towers break into the lake. Optional kayaking among the icebergs in the afternoon.

22 km · ↑ 500 m · Night: mountain refugio

Day 6 — The towers at dawn

An early start with head torches to reach the base of the towers as the sun rises. Breakfast by the lake below the granite, then a long descent through the Ascencio valley.

19 km · ↑ 800 m · Night: family-run estancia

Day 7 — Estancia life

A day on the estancia. Ride with the gauchos, help with the sheep or walk to a condor lookout, then share a farewell asado with lamb roasted over an open fire.

6 km · ↑ 150 m · Night: family-run estancia

Day 8 — Homeward

After a slow breakfast we drive back to Punta Arenas for afternoon flights home, with the wind still in your ears.

0 km · ↑ 0 m · Transfer to Punta Arenas airport
